With Friends Like These....

Andrew Sullivan:

Dan [Savage] and I agreed that moderate hypocrisy - especially in marriages - is often the best policy. Momogamy [sic] is very hard for men, straight or gay, and if one partner falters occasionally (and I don't mean regularly), sometimes discretion is perfectly acceptable.

This mindset of "But it's just so hard!" that the younger generation has adopted has apparently rubbed off (no pun intended) on ole' Sully. I won't speculate as to how that might have happened, but it's appalling.

Hey guess what? Calculus. Calculus can be hard. Forgiveness can be hard, too. So can sacrifice. Tons of things in this world are hard. But we attempt them anyway because they make us better human beings.

If this man speaks for even 5% of the gay community, then not only are we not ready for marriage, we don't even remotely deserve it.
